Significance
The cross, once a shameful form of execution for criminals, has became a predominant symbol of Christ and Christianity. The Cross is the symbol of victory over evil and death. Moses bar Kepha says," God the father gave his only begotten Son on the Calvary for our salvation". Lord has bestowed His Love for us with many awe-inspiring gifts. Yet the most precious gift is His son on the Calvary.
Bowing down before the cross is a tradition followed since ancient times. It is not the cross that we bow down to, but the resurrected Lord Jesus that we see through our spiritual eyes.
The Cross is a symbol of Salvation
Prayers
There is no particular script in circulation for Sleeba Perunnal but are available only in certain handwritten scripts. Hence no special prayers are spoken on this day. But if conducted, procession is made by the Chief Celebrant of the Holy Qurbana carrying the Cross and singing songs after Bas Malkho (Ninnal Sthuthiyodu..), either inside or outside the Church. Veneration of the Cross towards all four sides is usually followed by the procession.
